Welcome to charming Hotel Saxkjøbing. Idyllic atmosphere & memorable dining
Hotel & Pub since 1829
200 years of hospitality history
Hotel Saxkjøbing was established in 1829 and in 1835 was awarded the predicate 'Royal Privilege Pub', which gave the innkeeper the right to distill schnapps, brew beer and bake bread himself. The hotel's large theater hall was inaugurated in 1897 and has housed everything from East Prussian refugees in the last days of the war to revues and concerts with, among others, Sir Henry, Gasoline and Eric Clapton. Over the past 200 years, the hotel has been a meeting point for the inhabitants of the small market town. Claus Meyer, who as a child played table tennis with the sons of the former hotel owners, took over the hotel in 2006 and has since carried out an extensive renovation of the hotel.

Modern kitchen & local produces
Our Head Chef works closely with Claus Meyer on the hotel's modern inn kitchen. The menu follows the seasons and changes 5-6 times during the year. Our local products come primarily from Lolland, Falster, and the smaller South Sea islands. For lunch, we serve a wide selection of smørrebrød and two warm guest favourites: Parisian steak and the hotel's burger. For our evening restaurant, we present our classic a la carte menu and our 3 and 4-course seasonal menus.

The hotel has its own bakery, where our skilled bakers, Ivan Pejcic (Galst and Hesnæs Havn) and Naja Leander, bake sourdough bread and buns, rye bread and cardamom donuts every morning. The baked goods can be enjoyed on-site or bought to take home.
The bakery is adjacent to our small café with a terrace facing the square. In the café, light snacks, tapas, cakes, a good ice cream and a selection of hot and cold drinks are served throughout the day. The cafe also houses a small farm shop with a selection of local products as well as a number of delicious specialties from Meyers. The bakery, café and farm shop are open every day of the week from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
